Success Story: Helping Build Marathon’s Future

The Problem

One of the big questions any industrial or commercial company asks when moving to Marathon is, “How easy is it to find a contractor in the town?” They are always pleasantly surprised when they hear they don’t have to bring in their own

The Solution

The CGV Group is a multi-sector developer and design-build contractor operating in Marathon since 2017, beginning with the development, design, and construction of Peninsula Manor Supportive Housing in Marathon. Peninsula Manor is a seniors’ supportive housing facility nestled in downtown Marathon and operated by the North of Superior Healthcare Group. The 36-unit, 32,800-square-foot centre brings much-needed services for our aging population – not to mention a much-needed housing expansion for our growing town.

But that is just the beginning. In five short years, the CGV Group completed several local projects across multiple sectors such as:

  • the commercial sector including the development, design, construction, and operation of the Travelodge Hotel;
  • municipal projects including the construction of the Town of Marathon’s Public Works Facility and the design and construction of the clubhouse at the town-owned Peninsula Golf Course;
  • the industrial sector including the design and construction of a new building for Phil’s Waste Services;
  • Residential projects including the development, design, and construction of a three-storey 30-unit multi-residential building for the Ontario Aboriginal Housing Services, as well as the development, design, and construction of Gendron Northshore Living, a three-storey 50-unit multi-residential project managed by the Marathon Municipal Non-Profit Housing Corporation.

“From a progressive and business-friendly mayor, council, and economic development department to a very hospitable and welcoming community, we consider ourselves fortunate to have played a role in the growth and prosperity of this community,” said Michel Vezeau, President of the CGV Group. “We hope to continue to do so well into the future.”

The Result

As of Q1 2023, the CGV Group had completed (or was in the process of completing) eight major developments in the Marathon with an aggregate value in excess of $55 million. More projects are in the pipeline. One of the keys to their success is engaging with local suppliers and trades.

“Marathon is a hotspot of economic activity,” Vezeau said. “We prioritize the involvement of local companies in our projects to provide cost-effective solutions for our clients and to support the growth and development of the communities where we work.”

The CGV Group has quickly become a trusted partner in Marathon helping the town, its businesses, and its residents build the future.
